Winch to pull logs (Size?)
· Use it on the tractor to skid logs out to my trails for bucking as the trails are to winding to use tractor to pull in most spots. Also use it to pull deer up into the truck bed as I can't do this alone anymore. I have never been a big fan of wire cables so I put a # wire rope from HF on the winch and it has worked great.

Loading and Moving Big Logs with Minimal Impact
The other option is a system of blocks and a long cable. Build a steel cone to go over the end of the log and deflect it off of obstacles with the cable coming through the middle of the cone. You can then use blocks with a strap around various trees to pull your logs out. Very labor intensive system, though.

· If you have a sturdy 4 hitch, just get a length of steel cable, preferably with an eye in one end and a hook on the other. Use the truck to directly pull the logs, or if a more complex, angled pull is needed, add a pulley with a heavy strap to your arsenal.
